Academic Common Market

What ACM Is:

The Academic Common Market (ACM) is a tuition-savings program governed by the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB). It allows Tennessee residents to attend a public college in another southern state for in-state tuition, but only for programs not offered in Tennessee. It opens doors to specialized degrees and can save significant tuition costs.

What ACM Is Not:

  • Automatic — you must apply and be certified.
  • Available for all programs — only SREB-approved public programs qualify.
  • A merit-based scholarship — eligibility is based on residency and program admission status.
  • A way to shop around for lower tuition — it’s only for specific programs not offered in Tennessee.

How to Apply: 3 Simple Steps

  1. Find & Apply – Use the SREB Program Search Tool to see eligible programs. If the program is available, apply and submit application directly via our portal.
  2. Nominate a Program – If your desired program isn’t listed, submit a Program Nomination Request.
  3. Residency Certification – The ACM coordinator reviews your residency and issues a Residency Certification letter to your institutional ACM coordinator, who applies your in-state tuition discount!
